Doug and Dan set out their stall with the very lively guitar and harmonica opener ‘Traveling Man’ – acoustic blues need not necessarily be studious or earnest, though Dan’s ‘Pawn Your Guitar’ is a genuinely moving piece about a musician’s dilemma, and one that is obviously close to his heart when you look at his biography! The two men – who share vocal, harp or guitar duties as required - work very closely together on this live recording, which is hardly surprising as they have known each other since the seventies, when Doug moved out to California from Texas and met Dan, already a veteran of the San Francisco music scene. They have a ball on these tightly focused but very spontaneous sounding original tracks recorded at the Marshall Music House – try the Lightnin’ Hopkins tribute ‘Oh Lightnin’’ or the John Lee Hooker stylings of ‘Mini Skirt Alert’ for some familiar sounding numbers, but each of the ten tracks on this CD is first rate acoustic blues all the way.
