Im not really sure what to say about this one. Believe it or not it is my first time hearing him and the Mighty Flyers as an entire selection. I think if you are a fan you are gonna love this one. I have nothing to compare him with but Billy Branch and James Cotton. If Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers are your third choice, the listener is in for good music.
It comes with a DVD, a sticker and a reply post card. Listen to the Music, watch the DVD and send the stuff in. After all, "We are the chosen Few". I think over all I am impressed. I had some expectations and they were questioned. Phill Guy plays on this one. No disrespect but I could just about tell when he began to play.
My early notes tell me it is a swing Jazz Blues in the beginning, however you can pick up the finer blues the more you listen. I did notice how well the band plays and each part they take. The harp even surprises me at times. The keys are a delight to hear, I know The "Ground Hog Song" is my favorite. In my opinion Song #6 and what comes after is the best part of a dozen cuts.
#6 thru #12 are way better than the first 6 cuts, just my opinion. This group of Blues Bandits have been around for a long time. Your swing or jump-jive-and-whale fans friends will get a taste of the blues if you buy this for a holiday gift. Its not unreasonable for you to listen to this, and give it as a holiday gift. If you think of blues music that a jump, swing, or jazz fan would like, this is a good one to get for them hooked.
Tell them that Mad Dog recommended it and at least you gave them music (something they love) as a gift.
