The first song starts out scratchy like an old blues album should. These guys got some Flordia swamp and some Louisana voo doo in them. The first song "Possession Blues", names quite a few of the greats, you'll like it. The second song, "I Don't Want You" has a good drum beat and a strong harp.
Song # 4 "Shake your ass for me" is a favorite song of mine; it could be the sound, the song or the general idea. It has a petty soulful rhythm and beat to it. I could just imagine one of those pretty little things on the dance floor. The next song, "I've Got To Be With You Tonight" sees Vini thinking of that pretty girl, wanting her, and huggin his pillow at night.
"Beautiful Poison" is a dark song, slow and winding. It takes the CD in a different direction. The next few songs take you on the ups and downs of that poison sung about previously: "Sick Bed Blues" and "Sittin' On Top Of The World" by Chester Burnett. "I Don't Want To Go To Heaven" follows up those two and "Blues For The Android" closes out the CD.
I personally do not care for the theme of the second part of this CD. The music is good, and performed well, but leaves me with a bad taste when listening closely to the words. With that said, Song # 9 "I Don't Want To Go To Heaven" sounds almost like the best pure blues tune on the album. The guitar really sings on that one and the vocals are strong with a feeling. The harp is so soft and subtle like a dance with the other instruments.
"Blues From the Android" is much more down home front porch blues.
Overall, it's a pretty good CD for a first release. Skibo Demon sounds great on Harmonica. There is not much info on the band. They all have the same last name 'Demon' but are not related. You can find out more about them at www.viniandthedemons.com .
The liner notes mention Artis's Lounge (in Chicago) and Billy Branch along with Carl Weathersby, Bo Diddley, Leroy Brown the bassist for Eddie Clearwater and "The Chief" himself. They have a lot to live up to but they couldn't have picked out better mentors. The band was based out of Gainsville, FL. but moved to Chicago in 2001.
