Here is a musician and a member of The American Society of Composers; Artists & Performers with passion and his talents show it. Glenn performs guitar, drums, bass, tambourine, and vocals, he also writes all the songs on this CD. As the title "Piecework" says, he pieces it all together very nicely. When you open up the cover you see images of Glenn playing each instrument at different times. It seems as if he does all this out of his home. This is his first release.
The first song, "Everybody Wants a Piece of Me" is well written and performed. It fits in well with the concept of this CD. A hard workingman, into his music and everybody wants some of his time, attention, or the little money he has. A cool new blues song.
Things slow down with the third song, a blues ballad, "You Say You Love Me" . The Guitar really cuts in "I'm Cruisin'" Glen can play a mean guit-fiddle, as Albert King calls it. Don't get ready to dance yet because it is followed up with another slow ballad. The song itself "Where I Need To Be" tells of our doubts relating to the place we are in life based on the past choices we've made.
I really like "Something New" (song # 7) he has a Santana sound and feel to it. This is a much more up-tempo song and wish he would have played it longer. The next, "Strata Errata" picks up fairly well where the last left off but with a different guitar style. I really don't care much for the last song, "She Was Taller Than Me". It is quite different from the rest of the CD.
My over all impression of Glenn Goodspeed, of Ft. Worth Texas, is very good. I'd like to hear the songs performed by a group of musicians. I'd like to hear what some of the songs sound like with different voices. The Guitar work is the best part of the CD. Glenn also has a talent for song writing. For info on using his songs go to the following web site, www.ascap.com . A 1 ½ star review.
