Emery Williams Jr. is Detroit Jr. the great Piano man that played with Howlin Wolf from 1969 to 1975. Emery was born in Arkansas (1931) but lived in Michigan where his grandma had an organ, but his momma encouraged his playing the blues. He moved to Chicago in the 50's and Cadillac Baby named him Detroit Jr. in 1960.
This release has some great blues artists on it. Bob Stroger, plays the bass on the entire cd. Lurrie Bell and Maurice John Vaughn split most of the guitar work and there is a very cool horn section. Oh Yea did I say Detroit Jr. on all the 88 pearly whites and blacks? Ya know, it ain't nothing but the blues!
The first cut is "Call my Job" and the second (my favorite), "Hot Pants Baby" kick your body into action and makes ya wanna holler out. Detroit Jr. has a few message songs that get the point across with a flowing and cool rhythm. Learning the words to these tunes will give you something to think about, be it the Lord, living right or politics. "Sombody Better Do Something" is a good example.
Jr. mixes some jump and swing blues , with some gospel blues and got to have a pinch of Chicago and a dash of dirty blues. He has thirteen original compositions out of 15 total. There is also a video clip that you can play on your computer.
Mr. Junior is also quite the Lady's man, as his love songs will show. "Just You my Love" and "When it comes to your Love" leads to the Title song "Blues on the Internet" . They don't mess when it comes to the title song. This is a great blues tune that has it all. The words will make the ladies "He did not" and the men laugh out loud ( lol ).
Next is "Messing with the Kid" a classic Chess Records Chicago blues tune. These cats got it down in the Howlin Wolf Style. This cd is an excellent choice that will keep your party movin all night long and it ends up with a 3 ½ interview with Mr Emery "Detroit Jr." Williams Jr. himself.
If you'd like to see Mr Detroit Jr. in person you can do so Thursday through Saturday Nights from 8 - 9 pm in Chicago at Kingston Mines. They are located at 2548 N. Halsted Street in Chicago, Illinois. The phone number is (773) 477-4646
