It's a bit island music and reggae in a blues style. A little more care free and much less hassle. The title song "Daily Bread" says that we thank god for our daily bread and move on just like this CD does. Its simple, Its sweet. You will notice the violin throughout the collection. It is a very nice choice and really adds to the overall listening pleasure. Morwenna Lasko plays violin. The keyboards are also very good with Henry Butler tickling the keys (courtesy of Basin Street Records).
If ya like a little reggae and ya like to move and grove with some funk every once in a while, Corey Harris is a good one to do it with. The music almost wants to make you laugh, it has a feel good feel to it. The Cd is about 50 minutes long and is also one you might like for background music while driving or something else around the house or office.
It is based on something very different than most people are accustomed to. Song # 6 "Mami Wata" . It's basically about water and there are plenty of people that have next to none. Song # 8 "Just In Time" has a real jazzy sound to it. Reminds me of romance with some candle light, dinner and a special woman.
This is Coreys 8th release at least. He was born in 1969 in Denver. Corey has traveled to Africa with none other than Martin Scorcsese to trace Blues Music. His mother grew up in east Texas and Louisiana, he'd always heard about the blues and cut his debut CD in 1995.
The CD is intelligent with the vast number of new instruments that are brought into play and the stories that are told in the songs. Many of you know Corey as a Roots musician; he studied anthropology and spent quite some time studying the music in Africa. I support his efforts, the more ways we can present the blues, the longer it will live.
All the words to all the songs are included, which is always nice. You can find out more about Corey at his web site www.coreyharrismusic.com .
