Since the late 1980’s The Subdudes have been creating their own brand of roots rock. Combining their native New Orleans flavors with blues, gospel, R&B, funk, they stand alone as unique and innovative. After an eight year sabbatical, the Subdudes join forces with Bob Dylan Guitarists Freddy Koella for Miracle Mule. The laid back tones of the band haven’t changed a splinter as they still combine lush harmonies with the acoustic base of guitar, tambourine, and accordion but mix it up with some low key electric reverberations. Freddy plugs in on two swampy tracks, ‘Standin’ Tall’ and ‘Mississippi Home’. The freewheeling Subdudes pen reflective songs with a thick gumbo flavor on gospel rich cuts such as ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘If Wishing Made It So’. Recorded live in the studio, the disc resonates with a comfortable and unperturbed character of a concert performance. Rather than a comeback record, Miracle Mule should be regarded as a progression of this individual Americana band.
