Peter Lang has been around for a long time and way back in 1977, this album first saw it's release.
The album has been reissued 27 years later, and despite it's age it still sounds good. Peter who is a folk
artist, defines his guitar playing as derived from the country blues and string band music of the 20's and 30's.
Prime Cuts is a live album which was recorded at the Texas Tavern, University of Texas, Austin Texas. The reissue has been unmolested and the only changes has been to cut some of Peter's chat out, and add three more songs. Peter's playing really is superb throughout, right from the first two tracks "Wide Oval Rip-Off"
and "Hello Baby Blues" which are both instrumentals, we get to saviour his country blues style of playing which
has plenty of drive and clarity. Although the album is mostly instrumentals there are some vocal songs and
even some jokes as well. With plenty of support from the audience he gives a good vocal on a cracking song
called "Brownsville Road". "That's All Right" also has a vocal from Peter and some very good supporting guitar
in his country blues style. Another of the songs is "Methane Gas" and Peter really enjoys a joke with the audience as he tells them all about Methane Gas. Another piece of magic is Peter's superb playing on
"Quetico Reel/Poor Howard". Peter's final song on the original album was "Round Worm Reel", but on this reissue we have been treated to an extra three tracks, which are studio versions of the live songs. A worthwhile release from the extremely talented Peter Lang.
