I like Nick Curran for a lot of reasons. On his debut disc with Blind Pig, it was quite obvious that he had done his homework. His preference for vintage sound carries over into his sophmore release as well. This time around, you'll hear the influences of Little Richard, Louis Jordan (a lot swing/ala Texas Jump!), T-Bone, and his own uncanny perceptions into the American Roots grab bag. Great covers such as: Honey Bee / and Heeby Jeebies-great song! Hell, he even throws in an Iggy Pop; crazy man, but you got to love a performer with the balls to tackle new terrain. Nick comes in with a strong brass section on choice cuts-plus-the the great Kim Wilson harp on tracks 5, 10, and 13. I've always been partial to the baritone sax in jazz, rock, or blues. Paul Klemperer, and Doug James share the baritone spotlight. Strong vocals and fret work make for a well-rounded record-this one.
