The tightly knit trio of The Damon Fowler Group operates for the most part on their Floridian homebase. They make the occasional jaunts to Georgia. At least the gameplan looks that way from checking out their schedule.
Traveling out of the Sunshine State on a regular basis would be a boost to these boys' morale. When one hears Fowler's shit kickin slide on "Sweet Marmalade" and his ultimate Warren Haynes' slide impersonations on Johnny Winter's "TV Mama," you think how such a good thing can stay buried. Take a listen to the cd of The Damon Fowler Group Live and you won't need too much convincing.
Drummer Don Stahl and bassist Chuck Riley are the hard bottom for Fowler's fretboard mastery. They can swing through "The Jig is Up" and turn B.B. King's "Ghetto Woman" into funkarama rock. The unit blazes its way through "Rollin and Tumblin" with Fowler getting his ya yas out on lapsteel guitar.
Having the honors of opening for acts Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Robin Trower and other six string geniuses have helped get Fowler's name across the board. Relegating himself to playing the Florida bar circuit almost exclusively isn't a bad thing.
Those of us living in Marietta, GA have a chance to catch The Damon Fowler Group at the BackPorch Blues Festival at Darwin's. If his playing is anything near on this live cd, folks will be shaking it down. If you're not feeling a groove, then check your pulse.
