Daddy Long Legs are a four piece band hailing from Canada. Based in Southern Ontario, the band are fronted by Mike Elliott (guitar/vocals) with able support from Chris Malleck (harp) and the engine room of Steve Toms (bass) and Jeff Wagner (drums). Their self-produced debut(?) EP, "What You See Is What You Get" contains seven band originals, and was recorded live in the studio (although they do admit to a few overdubs).

The title tracks gets proceedings underway, and features some nice crisp guitar work. In places it is reminiscent of some of the work of Paul Lamb and the King Snakes. The band come across as a tight outfit, and they back this up on "Blues On A Budget." They all get a chance to individually shine on "More Than You Got" which is dominated by riffing guitar and harp fills.

Although blues is their stock in trade, even when they stray towards jazz territory on "Pick Up Line," they take it all in their stride. Then it is back to the blues for the excellent "Quit Waitin'," and the rocking, harpless "Do It Yourself." They then round off in some style with "Dos Equis," a blues-based instrumental with a distinctly Spanish tinge to it.

"What You See Is What You Get" is a fine recording. It offers 25 minutes of enjoyable blues that sits in the same sort of territory as Rockin' Daddy and the Rough Cuts. Their is plenty of evidence here to suggest that they would be a highly entertaining live act. While you are waiting for them to hit your town, you could do a lot worse than check out "What You See Is What You Get."
