Charlie enters the dark zone with a tough edge. He explores rock, blues, and gospel overtones on a killer 12 track CD. This is Musselwhite at his finest-bringing together a fine cast of players such as: Ben Harper, Charlie Sexton, and the Blind Boys of Alabama. If you are familiar with the "Blind Boys," and their flawless-and at times-haunting chorals, then you're in for a treat. The covers were well chosen, and Charlie takes them into new terrain. Included, are four originals: "My Road Lies In Darkness (Musselwhite recorded a different version of this song on his album: "Ace Of Harps" from a 1990 session with Alligator Records)," / "Shadow People" / "I Had Trouble" / and a brilliant harp solo on "Route 19 (Attala County, Mississippi). Route 19 takes you on a drive to the Musselwhite Cemetary-a fitting climax. This album, is without a doubt, Charlie's personal best. There is no room for polish; raw and unpretentious with a heavy weight's punch is a much better discription. Musselwhite is the kingpin of blues harp, and no one can catch him! He is an explorer at the top of his game-my highest reccomendations!
