Sometimes an artist will get it all together and make a perfect record. Whole Lotta Love is about as close as Candye Kane gets to perfection. It's not to say that her previous CD's didn't have some memorable tunes but this one hits all the right notes.

Candye is not a prolific songwriter but she has written 5 tunes that have "Candye Kane" written all over them. For instance on "A Lion In My House" she sings about her man and adds that sexual innuendo that she's known for. She sings ".He's the King of the Jungle and he acts real sweet, but he's mean and hungry and he's after meat, he says he's gonna eat me and I know he will. He's a lion-tiger and he shoots to kill." She continues her sexual prowess theme on the songs "27 Times"and "I'm Not Getting Older". When Candye belts out these songs it's not just idle boasting, sings it with such authority, you know she means it. These songs are like when Muddy Waters sings "I'm Your Hootchie Cootchie Man". But you gotta like Candy because she sings of being vulnerable in love too. " I'm Just A Sucker Who Believes In Love", written by her and "Something's Got a Hold On Me" exemplifies this idea.

Candye has also picked some real gems written by others that are perfect for her. "Fit, Fat, and Fine" could be her signature tune. In case you weren't familiar with Candye Kane, she is a very hefty, amply endowed, former adult film star who makes no apologies for her former career and champions big women. So this tune is well-suited for Candye. He also does a humorous, risqué remake of Big Bill Broonzy's " What's That I Smell". It's a duet with Charlie Musslewhite that's more fun than the original. She takes Wild Child Butler's " Put It All In There" to another level of sexuality. he way she sings it, the lyrics seem more suitable for a woman than a man.

The instrumentation throughout is superb. There are lots of lesser-known player who make mighty contributions. The only problem is that the liner notes do not tell the listener who is playing on which cuts. One may know Charlie Musslewhite's vocals,Larry Taylor's bass lines or Richie Hayward's drumming but unless notated, I don't know which songs feature Jeff Ross or Steve Goldstein.

I've always found some real memorable songs on each of Candye Kane's CD. But on Whole Lotta Love every song is good one.Candye, and to a lesser extent ,her collaborators, have obviously put a "whole lotta love " into this effort. The 41 minute running time makes you wish it was twice as long and how long it's gonna be before she put out another disc.
