It's been more than four years since Just Won't Burn hit the racks for Susan Tedeschi and helped move her well forward in the ranks. The question of why there was such a length between projects might be passed off to the birth of her child, with Allman Brothers' guitarist and husband, Derek Trucks, but It certainly seems from the production on Wait For Me that there was an extraordinary amount of time spent mixing and mastering. There's little question that she's also moved further from a blues-based style, although she's got some stellar musicians in Derek Trucks, Kofi Burbridge, Col. Bruce Hampton, Paul Rishell, Annie Raines, and others. Looking over the details (without any dates to go by) it looks as if number of sessions have been pasted together for this release, which should succeed at moving her toward wider commercial appeal. The title track is a heavy dose of green-eyed soul, but the heat picks up considerably on The Feeling Music Brings with an underpinning shuffle that dishes out scorching guitar from Trucks, and on I Fell In Love, she brings Johnnie Johnson aboard for some rollicking piano. The sweet acoustic backing for Blues On A Holiday is provided by Rishell and Raines, a superb blues duo from the Boston area. While there's less emphasis on blues than some might have hoped for, especially after such a long period, Wait For Me only proves further that Susan Tedeschi has a lot to offer, in addition to possessing one of the better voices heard today. www.tonecool.com or www.susantedeschi.com. 11 tracks, 46 minutes.
