Smokin' Joe Kubek's bio sheets are indeed, quite impressive: A child guitar prodigy at the age of 14, who played the Texas bar scene in and around Dallas, he soon teamed up with an array of brilliant performers such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Albert King, and Freddie King! He played rhythm guitar in Freddie King's band until King's death in 1976. Now I understand why Kubek's handle "Smokin'" is without a doubt; appropriate. He is a Texas metal shredder that can tear up any stage with his blues/rock fusion. I've witnessed his blistering solos, along with his toned-down passion; playing along with his long-time sideman Bnois King, out of Monroe, Louisiana. Here we have two contrasting styles that somehow work. Bnois, is totally smooth with a jazzy sound, and cool vocals-again; it's a wonder how this marriage of differing styles work-but it does. Take a listen to the 10 tracks on this killer disc, and you, too, will be convinced. My highest recommendations.
