All over the world, somber moods linger like evil shadows in a dark alley. Yet, René Solis, the adept, popular blues artist from the San Francisco Bay area, knows how to defy the darkness and chase those cruel penumbras away. His throaty lyrics, imaginative storytelling, and his extremely slick, determined guitar licks resurrect one's soul after feeling it unfairly murdered by the heartache in life.
For forty-five long days and lonely nights, I listened to this avid blues man almost repetitively as I fervently designed and sewed outfits for a Minneapolis fashion show. I was low on cash; my cupboards were almost bare, as I creatively recycled materials such as an old, red velvet theater curtain, old clothing and winter coats that used to hide in the back of the closet, in order to make my show a success. Mr. Solis' music mused me as I
trudged through this enormous task, transcending my misery into something spectacular, much as a seasoned blues man would.
Before I could grow weary from my exertions, René Solis' music took my mind and soul on a captivating journey. Together we went to the school of hard knocks and felt the southern heat and lightning of Memphis, Tennessee. I grinned like the Cheshire cat listening to the unique, soulful dialog about a man trying to console his woman's insecurities. (Track #7, I Sho Do happens to be one of my favorites!) Then, I cashed in my E-ticket and rode the train of lost love and misery to the dreaded welfare line. My spirit stood in line, giggling to myself while my stomach growled for a Twinkie. By the end, I was betting on the ponies, feeding the voracious slot machines, spending my quarters on the ice cream man and having a blues party.
"Resurrection's a delightfully rich, blues compilation. I thoroughly loved René Solis!" If you're feeling beaten by the cruel hands of life, let this blues man comfort and awaken you with his talent, emotion, and raw as silk style. René Solis is an amazing musician who's shared the stage with many great blues artists such as Albert King, Shemekia Copeland, John Lee Hooker, Luther Tucker, Kenny Neal, and former NiteCry member Tommy Castro. He's also the former leader of the popular band, "NiteCry," and now leads "René Solis And The Persuaders," into uncharted territory.
