After sweeping the 2002 Grammy Awards with her sophomore release, Come Away with me, the 24 year old Norah Jones proved to be a bankable artist with her hybrid of jazz, pop and blues. However many wondered if she could repeat the success of the cd that made her a household name. Teaming up with renowned blues guitarist Peter Malick –who has worked with James Cotton and Otis Spann-, might not take her to the top of the charts; it does however show a side of Norah that has remained untapped as her vocals are a bit more gutsy and less vulnerable this time around. Norah Jones’ voice lends itself easily, as expected, to a guitar blues format a she adopts a Bonnie Raitt style. Norah reworks the Dylan tune, ‘Heart of Mine’ with some tempered and thoughtful guitar work from Malick. Peter and Norah duet on the funky ‘Things You Don’t Have To Do’ with some Ray Charles-esque electric piano provided by Tom West whereas ‘Strange Transmissions’ is closer to contemporary pop-blues comparable to Susan Tedeschi.

Although the disc only contains 7 tracks, with two versions of the title track, it’s enough to delightfully tease fans until she releases her next recording.
