Paul Reddick hails from Canada with a smooth, powerful, and expressive blues harp that frequently gets low and gritty, matching his strong, low, husky vocals. This talented blues band has a reverence for the roots of the blues, as evidenced in their original tribute song, "Sleepy John Estes and a Cigarette." The uptempo, rolling blues here features some strong, heavy, dirty tone harp work by Paul along with his low, hip inflected, husky vocals. Paul harp work shows smoothness, power, and range. Clearly he is more of an instrumentalist than a singer, but as a blues singer, he definitely fills the bill. "Blind River Bound" is the only non-original track. It features a nice Delta sound with some subtle slide guitar, slow, soulful, mournful harp by Paul, and heavy, mournful vocals that make the song a high point of the CD. While the CD is billed as "Hard blues for modern times" and includes the instructions to "play this CD loud" these blues men can give you either a modern, rocking blues sound as on "One Way Trip" or a more traditional blues sound on "Trouble Again." On the title cut Paul emphasizes his great harp playing while playing down his vocals by singing through his harp mike. The changing of tempos, atmosphere, and even eras of the blues shows what a talented and knowledgeable group of musicians Paul has. Definitely consider adding this CD to your collection.
