I don't know anything about this young cat, but after hearing this record, I can honestly say, that I like his style. Like yours truly: he only believes in one-takes, he digs vintage equipment and sound (late 40s through the middle 50s), and above all; it's quite obvious that he done his homework. If you take all the elements from roots rock and/or rockabilly, jump blues, and/or raw blues of the plugged variety-you've got Nick Curran. On his debut record ( he recorded two previous albums on the Texas Jamboree label: "Fixin'Your Head" and "Nitelife Boogie") with Blind Pig Records, he wrote six out of the thirteen tracks. As an added surprise, Curran brought in some fine guests such as Jimmie Vaughn-2nd guitar on tracks two and seven, plus Gary Primich-harmonica on four and nine. Nick Curran's guitar and strong vocals are much more advanced than what you'd normally expect for a guy his age. In the words of Jimmie Vaughn: "he's just a total ass-kicker." And I have to agree-on every damn track! Check him out.
