Little Luke and his band, who come from Wyoming, present us with a
very pleasant hard hitting album "Shootin The Groove".
The album gets under way with "Come On Over" which is really a band
warm-up kind of tune, which has some hard hitting grooves played by
Jeff "Little Luke" Lucas on a Hammond B3 organ, he also wrote this
opening song. "Ain't That Peculiar" originally done by Marvin Gaye has
a gentle soft melodic organ solo at the beginning played to great effect by
Little Luke on his B3, and we are treated to a soulful sax solo from Sax
Gordon Beadle in the middle. Amy Gieske does a very good job with a
seductive vocal on "Lose At Love", whilst Sax Gordon and Little Luke play
some small solo's throughout this dreamy song, my favourite on the album.
Amy also plays the bass throughout the album, Nick Smith on drums lays down
a good solid foundation.
"Valley of Love" is almost a full scale rocker which is driven along with some
stonking sax from Sax Gordon, Amy's singing is very raunchy on this song.
"Can't Kill For The Thrill" showcases Jeff "Little Luke" Lucas who dazzles with
some great Hammond B3 playing and a gritty vocal on a song he wrote himself.
"Kool With Kopp" sees Jeff Koop step up on drums for this number only, laying
down a good beat for Little Luke's B3 to let rip and Greg Wehler on guitar
does a nice compact solo. The album ends with a longer version of the opening
song "Come On Over".
I liked this Cd, it is a touch short on playing time and has a couple of rough edges
on the production side but that said the Cd is well worth obtaining.
