blues picture Telarc have been releasing CD's with a theme for a couple of years, they have now touched on the subject of matrimony and alimony. The subject matter is the perfect setting for a good blues compilation to highlight Telarc's growing rooster of blues artists on it's label.

The album gets going with a wailing harp from Kenny Neal, at the start of his version of a Fred James song "No More One More Chance". Kenny is in top form with some tight playing on his guitar and well controlled harp playing as the song drifts along with his almost gentle like vocal. Fred James is featured on The Sam Lay Blues Band track "I'm Gonna Shot Her" and Fred plays some quality guitar, Sam does a good job on vocal and of course he lays down a great beat on his drumkit. I must admit to liking Jimmy Thackery's "I Still Want To Be Your Man" his vocal is reminiscent of Eddie Hinton and we also get on this track the wonderful Cate Brothers adding their magic. One big surprise is Charlie Musselwhite doing a very creditable vocal on "Faithless Love", which is a haunting piece of music helped along by Charlie superb low key Harp playing giving it an almost dream like quality. Charlie also gets together with Sugar Ray Norcia on "Life Will Be Better", Charlie provides the vocal, whilst Sugar Ray accompanies him with his harp.

Junior Wells is helped out by keyboard maestro David Torkanowsky on "Trying To Get Over You" as it swings along thanks to David's fine piano work accompanying Junior's fine vocal. Eddie Kirkland tough sounding vocal on "Lonely Street" is a joy and added to it is some stunning slide guitar playing from the master guitar player Sonny Landreth. The final song on this good album is by Mighty Sam McClain and his superb band doing one of Sam's own songs "Battlefield of Love". Telarc are to be congratulated with coming up with a good concept album that is of a high standard and should do very well.
