blues picture With Delmark Records currently celebrating their 50th anniversary, the new budget-priced Saver Series will prove a smart way to go for those just getting their feet wet in the vast world of blues and jazz. For blues fans, there are three specific releases beginning with West Side Chicago Blues, a nine-song compilation showing off a good variety of artists including Otis Rush (Cut You A Loose), Magic Sam (I Need You So Bad), Jimmy Dawkins (Chittlins Con Carne), and Luther Allison (You Done Lost Your Good Thing) all with vintage performances dating between 1967 and 1975. Among the more modern practitioners, Syl Johnson hands in Driving Wheel, Tail Dragger powers through You Gotta Go, Little Arthur Duncan (the lone harp player) offers Singin' With The Sun and Willie Kent's Do You Love Me? shows the fine skills of Jake Dawson on guitar. Johnny B. Moore is also aboard with Sittin' Here Thinkin' rounding out a superb introduction for those unfamiliar with the slashing guitarists who pioneered the brittle Westside style back in the 1950s, as well as some of those proudly carrying on the tradition today.
