"Keeping the Blues Alive Award" Achievement for Blues on the Internet Presented by The Blues Foundation
After being seriously ill, and coming close to death, Chris Rea decided it was time to return to his roots. On "Dancing Down The Stony Road" he takes the chance to name check Charlie Patton, Blind Willie Johnson and Sister Rosetta Tharpe who first turned him onto the blues, and reflect some of their styles in the band's playing. All the songs are originals, and it is blues all the way. The mood throughout is often dark and broody (a bit like Patton) but the results are first rate. The double CD includes bonus documentary footage of the making of the record. Surprise album of the year, and definitely one of the best.
