Bob Angell's Blues Outlet has long been a fixture on the Providence, RI blues scene, and
while there's little evidence of the music thriving there as it once did, it's nice to see this regional artist
finally deliver a CD of good time blues. While not a particularly strong vocalist or a stellar guitarist, he
is convincing, especially on the mysterious sounding Peter Green-like original, Loneliest Man In
The World. The title track and Trouble In Mind are capably delivered by Kelly Knapp, a
stirring female vocalist, and backing throughout is offered by Chicago Vinnie Earnshaw on bass and
Jack Moore's solid drumming capabilities, while the group is rounded out by Harmonica Robert
Marsella's playing. Guest spots come from Duke Robillard, who hands in strong guitar on Nach'l
Boy, James Montgomery's fiery harp on I Feel So Good, Dan Moretti's lowdown sax on
That's What I Mean By Love, and Paul Geremia's slide on Take This Hammer. The
hottest moments crop up during Olneyville Stomp with crunchy guitar and blazing harmonica
over a breakneck groove, the quiter moments of Cigarette Smokin' Women, where Angell plays
fine guitar in support of Harmonica Robert's best work on the disc, and J.B. Lenoir's Voodoo
Music. Three of the tracks were recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, including the
final pair of Big City Blues (Part 1) and Muddy Memories, which sounds quite like a
Waters' gem, I Can't Be Satisfied. While certainly short on playing time, Bob Angell's conviction
to his life's passion is readily apparent. Send email to: email@example.com or write to them at: Blues
