Living Blues Magazine (Published bimonthly in the US)
Number #148, vol 31, number 6, (Nov/Dec 1999)
Though not touted as a "Special Issue", it is!! Living Blues contributors submit their respective favorites in an article entitled, "A Century of the Blues." think you know the Blues…read this. Deborah Coleman talks about her need to "venture out." Roy Gaines gets right to the point in a revealing article in which he talks about following in the entertainment tradition of "the Bone and Gatemouth." In the early 60's there was no one like Barbara Lynn, a left handed guitar player, gospel/soul influenced R&B performer, whose hit "You'll Lose a Good Thing" made history, proves she is still one of the best at what she does. Terry Evans, one of my all-time favorites, (listen again to his "Get Your Lies Straight" with Sonny Landreth on a blistering slide from "Blues For Thought", Pointblank Records) talks about writing songs that bring people together. This months record reviews include: Luther Allison, George Stancell, Artie "Bluesboy" White, Jimmy "T99" Nelson, Jimmy Burns, Jimmy Johnson, Junior Kimbrough, Eddie Kirkland, Joe Louis Walker, Chris Thomas King, Charles Wilson and Weepin' Willie. Columns: Soul Stew, Short Takes, Radio Charts, Back Door, News, Obituaries, Classifieds, and all the places to look for what you need or want for you and those on your blues list. Have a Cool Yule!!
