Once again, Dave Ray, Tony Glover, Camile Boudoin, and Reggie Scanlon pulled off another top-flight gig at the Turf. However, this shouldn’t come as a surprise when legendary performers click. But this band is truly phenomenal with (The Radiators) Camile and Reggie. Three guitars and Tony’s harp on Easter Sunday in St. Paul. Think of it: St. Paul on Easter Sunday—totally dead to the world and stone-cold quiet on the Avenue. The gig was set for 6:00 P.M. till 10:00 P.M. There are very few performers (that I know) who would try to tackle any holiday much less this one. Other than Pulse, the press neglected to mention the time slot for the show; yet when the mojo works its magic anything can happen. By the end of the night, the Turf had filled and the standing ovations were in order. Dave has an incredible song bag to say the least, and when he took off on "Mystery Train" the crowd went wild! Camile, Reggie, and Tony were in the groove with Ray’s vocals.
Man, it was just to damn cool for words. As the night wound down, Camile showed me his guitar set-up complete with nylon strings. This was a first for yours truly! All that power on nylon with a beautiful slide effect through an overdrive pedal. For me, this was a learning experience. I believe that "The Back Porch Rockers are a much needed band in a world gone sour (musically speaking) with too much commercial trappings. From the Gulf Coast, up through the Mississippi Delta (lets not forget Chi Town!) all the way to Minnesota, these cats cover it all.
