A group well known in the northland for their hard-driving blues and blues/rock, Willie's Thang have been a popular Twin Ports band since their formation in 1993. The core trio behind this sound is Willie John Blomquist (guitar and vocals), Johnny "G" (percussion and vocals), and Steve Filipovich (bass). This trio currently holds down the popular "house gig" at the Bayfront Blues Saloon in Superior, Wisconsin. Joining the trio for their Bayfront Blues Festival debut will be Willie's brother Rick Blomquist (guitar and vocals), and Dan McGovern (saxophone). Guitarist Willie Blomquist, a full time musician with a background in the theater, has been playing guitar for over 30 years. His heartfelt guitar rhythms and vocals are the moving force behind the band's sound. Bassist Steve Filipovich brings years of studio and club experience to the band and his 6 string bass adds a new dimension to the low end, not often seen on the Blues scene. Willie and Steve have been playing together for the past 20 years. When self taught drummer Johnny "G" joined the group in the early 90's Willie's Thang became a force to be reckoned with. Johnny "G", who has been keeping the beat for 28 years comes to the blues by way of hard rock and brings unparalleled power and consistency to the band's rhythm section. Willie's Thang, in their trio format, are well known for their ability to rip-up any crowd they play in front of and with the addition of second guitarist Rick Blomquist (who has played with Leep 27), and saxman Dan McGovern, this five-piece version of Willie's Thang offers a rare opportunity to experience this versatile and powerful Twin Ports band.
