Not only is Tom Hunter one of the most exciting blues piano players on the Twin Cities’ music circuit today, he is also one of the most recognized. Hunter’s amazing keyboard prowess has afforded him the opportunity to play with just about every major blues band in the Twin Cities as well as sit in with most of the national touring blues bands coming to Minnesota. Originally from the east coast, Tom moved to the Twin Cities 3 years ago and has found his way onto the Bayfront Blues Festival stages playing with several different bands every year since then. Tom has toured and recorded with Little Sammy Davis, Bill Perry, Mary Cutrufello, and Bernard Allison and in 1999 formed his own band and recorded his debut CD, "Big Thunder." Tom is joined by a small group of seasoned professionals whose playing has been honed to a fine edge from years of touring with well know bluesmen. Longtime Minneapolis resident, Jon "Gunnar" Gunvaldson, who has played on the road with Syl Johnson, is a perfectionist on the guitar who knows how to move an audience with his superb playing. Steady as the rock-of-Gibraltar drummer, Rob Stupka is one of the most sought after drummers in the blues world today. Noted for his long association with Luther Allison, Stupka is known as the "best-of-the-best" blues drummers playing anywhere. Rounding out the core of the band and holding down the bass beat is John Eiden. The Tom Hunter Band covers the musical spectrum from smoky jazz to gut-bucket Chicago blues. In fact, any style of blues this stellar band chooses to play is outstanding. The band will also be playing at Tom and Jerrys in Chisholm, Saturday, June 10.
