The Busters, "one of Duluth's best good time bands", always bring a mix of original and traditional blues and boogie to their performances. Encompassing the elements of many styles of blues, their sound is primed to get people up and out to dance. For years they have provided fun and have shared goodtimes with their fans in our northern region. The Busters, after boppin' the blues or rockin' straight ahead into a frenzy, can ease into a heartfelt ballad with soulful style.
Rick News Olson and Mike Mattson, co-founders of the group, have been singing and playing guitars together for over 25 years in the upper tri-state area. Both share lead vocals with bass-man Anthony "Tony Stone" Livingston, who joined Rick and Mike twenty some years ago after playing guitar and bass in several fine acoustic groups. They have recently reunited with former bandmate and long-time friend Mike "Spike" Monson on drums, percussion, and vocals. This bands forte is in moving the sound around, often featuring three and four part harmonies, all contributing to the upbeat and goodtime approach to playing their music.
The Busters have enjoyed performing in several Bayfront Blues Festivals, Blues on the Range, and many clubs, concerts, and parties. They've opened for the late legend Luther Allison, Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers, and Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets with Sam Myers. After releasing a CD, "Waiting for the Tide" in 1997, the band is putting together original material and hoping to record another project. If you like your blues with a rockin' edge that will take you higher, come lighten up and party with The Busters.
