Born on the Iron Range, Paul Metsa’s performance at The Blues On The Range festival has become an eagerly awaited annual event for both Paul and his fans. He has been performing his distinctive style of acoustic folk/blues in the Twin Cities area since 1984 and says his influences range from Brownie McGhee to Leonard Cohen. During this time he has released a string of albums on is own label, Raven Records, and performed at over 2500 shows as well as winning numerous Minnesota Music Awards including the 1994 award for Best Acoustic Guitar. A 4-song collection called "Lincoln’s Bedroom," is Paul’s newest CD. Paul as been described as "one of the finest singer-songwriters in Minnesota," and the "hardest working musician in the Twin Cities." His performances are always "passionate, poetic and powerful." During the past three years Paul has been performing at various venues around the Twin Cities with harmonica ace Bob Wilson. Wilson first learned to play the harmonica at the young age of 8 and was introduced to one of his major influences, Paul Butterfield, at age 11. Bob says he first liked the fast players like Sugar Blue and Pat Hayes (of Lamont Cranston) but recently has begun to really appreciate the subtleties, tone and vibrato of players like Sonny Terry, Little Walter and Sony Boy Williamson. Continuing in the tradition of other famous guitar/harp partnerships, this dynamic duo of classic and original acoustic folk/blues recently returned from a successful performance at the Million Mom March in Washington, DC on Mother’s Day and can be found every Friday at Gabby’s in the Twin Cities and in an electric band format every Tuesday at Bunker’s.
