Howard "Guitar" Luedtke & Blue Max is an Eau Claire, Wisconsin based blues-rock band that has been performing in the upper Midwest for the past two decades. Just about anyone who has seen Howard's Screamin' slide guitar and the band's rocking electric blues style have become instant fans. Considered one of the best slide guitar players in the area, Howard, from Augusta, Wisconsin, has been playing guitar since 1964. "I grew up with the Beatles, Hendrix and the Stones," says Luedtke. "Then in '69 or '70 I was first exposed to the classic blues and was fascinated by it." After playing in a variety of blues, rock and country bands, Howard formed his own band in 1982 called Blue Max. With his long hair flying about his face and his agile fingers flying across his fretboard, Howard "Guitar" Luedtke is a guitar wizard when it comes to interpreting the blues classics by Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker and Willie Dixon. Rounding out this power-trio is Deb Klossner on bass and Tom Hagedorn on drums. From New Ulm, Minnesota, Deb has been performing around the area since 1983. After four years of performing with several rock bands in Southern Minnesota, Deb joined Blue Max in 1987. She's been playing the blues ever since. Tom is originally from Beaver Creek, Oregon and joined Blue Max in 1994. Tom and Howard also played together in the Nels Tiller band in the late '70s. Over the years Howard "Guitar" Luedtke & Blue Max has opened for the likes of Johnny Winter, Hubert Sumlin, Tinsley Ellis, Koko Taylor, Jeff Healey and Lonnie Brooks, among many others and have become known as one of the best blues-rock experiences in the Midwest.
