Guess what? There's another Fargo-to-Twin Cities music connection, this time via Austin, Texas. The Keller Brothers, Mike and Corey, grew up in Fargo, North Dakota and moved to Austin, Texas 5 years ago. They formed their current band 3 years ago, recorded their first CD (Live At Antone's) 2 years ago, and in January of 2000 moved to the Twin Cities under the guidance of new management. Their new manager, Jon Langseth, convinced them the Twin Cities was the place to be. And based on what's been happening with the group in the short time they have been there they made the right decision. The band's sound is a combination of Texas and Chicago blues with healthy doses of New Orleans funk and Louisiana Swamp rock. The energy the band puts into their music, as well as the discipline and authenticity of their sound is rarely found in musicians of their age. The band is made up of Mike Keller on guitar and vocals, Matt Farrell (from Texas) on piano, organ and vocals, Corey Keller on drums and Scott Nelson (from Fergus Falls, MN) on bass. These are four exceptionally talented musicians who quickly gained a reputation in Austin as "the" band to see and play with. It wasn't long before they caught the ear of Clifford Antone and picked up a regular weekly gig at Antone's club playing with and opening for all the major blues bands who came through the area. Since moving to Minnesota the band has been performing almost non-stop with local club dates and national tours. It's refreshing to see the exuberant enthusiasm combined with unparalleled musical skills that the Keller Brothers Band brings to the blues. With The Keller Brothers Band, the future of the blues are definitely in good hands. They will also be backing up Sue Foley at the festival on Sunday and playing at the 3rd Rock, along with the Hillbilly Voodoo Dolls, on Friday and Saturday night.
