Jay Stulo is one of Wisconsin’s hottest blues guitarists whose musical roots run deep. Born in Milwaukee into a musical family, Jay was encouraged to play an instrument at an early age. His father, who was a popular rockabilly guitarist in the late fifties was also an avid record collector who exposed his children to the blues of Albert Collins and Buddy Guy, the R&B of Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, and the early rock n’ roll of Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Fascinated by these and other artists Jay dug deeper and found Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, and Sonny Boy Williamson II. After moving to Eau Claire Jay met James Solberg and began playing guitar with many of the regional and national blues acts traveling though the area and was exposed to the music of Gatemouth Brown, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks, Kenny Neal and Luther Allison. Luther was particularly impressed with Jay's knowledge of the blues and it wasn’t long before Jay hit the road as Luther's guitar tech and apprentice. Luther took Jay under his wing and would call the young guitarist up on stage and test him in front of live audiences all over the world. Eventually Luther encouraged the budding musician to start his own group, which Jay decided to do after leaving Luther in 1995. Jay formed the Mighty Aces and quickly built a strong following on the Wisconsin blues circuit. After taking some time off to tour with The James Solberg Band, Jay has put together a new group with Jimmy Crimmins on guitar, Tim Peeters on bass, and Craig Panosh on drums. With a band full of road vets Jay has hit the road in support of his latest studio release "Damn Good Reason To Play the Blues."
