Inside Straight, a popular band with Twin Cities and regional club audiences, plays blues and
blues-rock in the Chicago, Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, St. Louis and New Orleans traditions.
Tempered with solid jazz, funk and R&B influences, the result is a sound that is unique to Inside
Straight; a sound that is truly a collection of it's members backgrounds and experiences. Inside
Straight has shared stages with artists such as Jimmy Rogers, Tab Benoit, James Cotton, Long John Hunter, Big Walter Smith, Roomful of Blues and Rare Earth. They have played stages at the Bayfront Blues Festival, the Minnesota Blues Festival, Chippewa Valley Blues Festival, Cedarfest in Minneapolis, Selby Days in St. Paul, and the Pine River Blues festival. The band's leader, Kurt Koehler (Lead Vocals & Guitar) was born in Chicago in 1952. Kurt has been singing and playing the blues for over 30 years, from smooth uptown styles to contemporary rock-edged Texas styles to the down & dirty sounds of the Southside and Westside of Chicago. Greg Beach (Fender Bass & Vocals) has been playing the bass since the mid-1960s with a strong background in blues and rock & roll bands. Pete Meyer (Guitar & Vocals) has been playing blues guitar in the Twin Cities for several years and teaches guitar on a nearly full-time basis in various styles, but his heart is with the blues guitar masters of the past. Rick Johnson (Drums), an artist by trade, has been playing drums for several decades and has worked with many of the early rock and blues bands in the metro area. "Brother" Bill Swanson (Keys and Vocals) has over 30 years experience as a professional musician. Hans Skott-Myhre (Saxophone) has been playing saxophone for over 30 years and cites his major influences as John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly. Inside Straight is performing at R.T. Quinlans on Friday night.
