Formed in 1997 as a result of a weekly jam session hosted by Mel Sando, The Delta Resonators have gained a reputation in the Northland for their spirited and hard driving blues. The band was one of the surprise hits of both The Blues On The Range and The Bayfront Blues Festival last year. The lead singer and slide guitarist, Mel Sando, has been performing in area nightclubs as a solo country blues artist for the past several years. He cites country blues legends Bukka White and Son House as his favorite players. Rounding out the band is Mark "Franco" Levitt on harmonica, "Dangerous" Dave Prudhomme on bass and Ryan Helmer on drums. The band's performance features material from their 1998 release "Juke Joint Junkie," and Mel's solo album "Walking Alone," as well as a variety of classic Chicago and Delta blues. The band's philosophy about their music is to keep it simple with an emphasis on the groove to get people moving. Drawing on Mel's affection for country blues and early electric blues, the band also covers the music of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson and more contemporary artists like Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Charlie Musselwhite, Keb' Mo' and The Allman Brothers. This is house-rocking blues played with a fresh vitality and energy featuring harmonica, bass, drums and Mel's exceptional electric resonator guitars.
