"Cure for the Common Groove" is an 18-track compilation comprised from this Jacksonville, Fla. band's previous albums: "Prescription"; "House Calls"; "Emergency" and "Bad Connection."
For those not familiar with the Dr. Hector & the Groove Injectors, the band is comprised of Dru Lombar a.k.a. "Dr. Hector" (vocalist/guitarist), Rick "Hurricane" Johnson (tenor and baritone sax, keyboards, vocals), Gene Melendreras (drums) and Clinton Carver (bass, vocals).
There's much to admire on this compilation including the original "Safe in Your Arms Again," which finds the boys groovin' to a 2/4 beat and each taking a turn playing in reflection or angst of a lost and broken romance or two. The CD's second cover is a nice take on Elmore James' classic "Pickin' the Blues," which is driven by excellent saxophone playing from Johnson and nice slide guitar phrasing by Lombar.
