Carey Bell
"Good Luck Man"
Alligator Records, 59 minutes, 14 tracks, 1997
Carey Bell, another of the veteran Chicago blues harmonica players, is one of the most dynamic on stage today. Bell, like his contemporaries Junior Wells, James Cotton and Mojo Buford once held the prestigious harmonica chair in the Muddy Waters band. This new CD features some classic Chicago gems from Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Bell's mentor Big Walter Horton as well as some sizzling originals. One in particular that really rocks called "Bell Hop." Backed by his long time touring band Bell has released one of the best harmonica albums this year. In additional to Bell's rich and tasteful harmonica tones his gruff vocals take the listener back to the hey day of classic Chicago blues harp.
