The Blues Renegades first full length CD, "Why do they call it the blues," is another example of the solid quality musicianship produced by the Pacific Northwest. The Blues Renegades based in the Seattle-Tacoma area of Washington, have put together a collection of original blues, and blues/rock songs worthy of leaving in the CD player for a few weeks. I for one kept it in the deck a few weeks past that. What was most striking to me is the connection achieved by guitarists Dave Park (bass), and Tom Crow (guitar), who have teamed up to co-write six of the CD's eleven songs. Tom Crows'
slide guitar work is outstanding, and augmented by the fine blues guitar work of Shannon Lee Schwieger, who in fact spends plenty of time up front with some great lead work of her own, not to mention her searing and soulful vocals. Shannon also showcases her writing skills, having penned two originals for the disc. Providing the powerful, driving beat, and keeping the band on their toes is drummer, Butch Thornell. There is some very good work on this disc, and is worthy of a good spin, check it out.
Also give the band a visit on their web site: www.bluesrenegades.com
