ALLONS EN LUISIANE is subtitled The Rounder Records Guide To Cajun Music, Zydeco and South Louisiana--it's a 2 CD package, one audio, the other an interactive CD ROM. Put together by producer Scott Billington, this ambitious release contains on the audio CD, contemporary cuts by current performers from both Zydeco and Cajun backgrounds. Tunes range from over the past decade and are by performers such as Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Beausoleil, Geno Delafose and D. L. Menard. The CD ROM has Quicktime video dance instructions,(the Cajun Traveling Two-Step and the Zydeco Running Man) short cooking classes (Crawfish Etouffee and Sauce Piquante, complete with printable recipes) and a minimal travel guide (restaurants, grocery stores, clubs) for 8 selected cities, such as Eunice, Opelousas and Lafayette. In the Cajun category there are 7 bands listed, 6 in Zydeco. Click on a band, you get photos, printed bios and often brief audio interviews--including a short performance video clip with Beau Jocque and his father playing. The ideal way to get into the set is throw the audio CD on the stereo and explore the CD ROM while you're listening--newly shot photos of the performers help bring the songs home. Its a well put together package, and fun to play with.
