This is Roy's debut with Evidence Records, and is scheduled for release on March 28th, of course, by the time you read this it should be in the stores. For all of those good folks in the blues world and beyond; you should be quite familiar with Roy's slide guitar approach. His name pops up as not only a highly requested sessions man, but he is well known as his own frontman -check out his discography. As far as records go, this one is going to knock you out of your socks. For one thing, it's an all instrumental disc, and Roy takes his slide attack outside the norm. There are only a handful of slide players that I know (blues) that perform outside the usual tunings: Open G, D, D7, E, and A. Roy utilizes all of the above plus the standard or Spanish on lead playing with the band. I've always been partial to blues instrumentals with or without a backup band-my first three records were instrumentals; but there's no comparison in regards to Roy, he could out play yours truly on any given day! What you got is a thirteen track gem from beginning to end. The song, "Avalanche" is my favorite-try to follow the changes! The second track is equally powerful with Roy chewing up a '58 Les Paul-kudos for Norton Buffalo's harp. Looking at track #3: "Razor's Edge"-a very moody composition, and another fav; Roy takes you into unfamiliar territory -very cool. Track #4 is a booty shake with all the bumps and grinds; a helluva lot a fun; same goes for track #5. Jumping ahead to #7: "Crescent Steps," Roy hits you with some New Orleans, very righteous indeed. And moving along from #8 to #13, each and every song stands alone with Rogers' signature slide that is uniquely his own-this is an award winning disc to say the least-my highest praise.
