blues picture Los Blancos is a party band as comfortable with blues as with other roots musics. This eight-song taster showcases their solid musicianship and crowd-pleasin' performances from a Syracuse club date. The opening "Chill," penned and sung by bassist Steven T. Winston, features ivory-burning keys from Mark Nanni and Colin Aberdeen's sizzling guitar work. Aberdeen's "Miss Your Water" features his vocals and rhythmic guitar on an Allman Brothers-inspired groove. Providing their stamina, the band breaks hard into a shuffling "Mighty Mean Mama," then breaks it down to a sexy, slow "Shakin' That Thing," reminiscent a bit of "Fever." Following a zydeco cover that starts out more promising than it delivers, the band offers a slightly more interesting cover of JJ Cale's "Crazy Mama" before getting back to their infinitely more enjoyable program of original material. Much like NRBQ this is a band that completely owns an audience. Aberdeen's "I'll Be Your Man" is a bluesy ballad that sets up a monster take on Elmore James' classic "Roll Your Money Maker."

Los Blancos are packed solid with musical ammo. See them when they play a pub or parking lot near you. This disc is a whole lotta fun.
