Lonnie's Knight reminds me of a fine wine because his art gets better with time. He's been entertaining the Midwest for many years with his music and talent, and has just released his newest CD, "Cain's Blood," which is his second release. I enjoyed listening to this CD and thought Lonnie's metaphors sink into the soul like a poet's words in most of his melodies.
Lonnie Knight's voice is raw, wild and despaired in track number two, Blues Attack. It's rhythm feels as if an uncontrollable panic is surging through it. He tells an endearing tale about Miss Claudia in track number three, and he captivates your ears in, King of the Jungle, where's he's the reigning cat on the scene. The listener travels with Lonnie to a place where some go to hide and some go to find their souls in track number five, The Dark Side. It's a slow melody that one might listen to on a warm summer night beneath the stars, pondering the duality of humanity. Lonnie caught me off guard in his song, I
Thought We Said Goodbye, with the astounding female vocals, which ooze with passion and spook this melody. This song hits fierce in the soul and lingers there to haunt. The music in this track is just as intense as the lyrics and vocals. Once again Lonnie surprises me with a new style in his music and vocals with track number nine, Just Keeps Going On. The uniqueness of this song threw me off a bit at first. Yet, the more I listened, the more I liked the synthesizers and special effects. I admire the creativity in this song.
Lonnie's guitar playing entrances in, She Hidin, which is a rich, bluesy melody. Lonnie's voice is deep and raspy, almost growling his lyrics, and the harmonica weeps so sad you can almost taste the tears. Lonnie chills me to the bones with one of my favorites of his, Tell Me What You Want Me To Do. It's slow and sultry. Lonnie's passion hits deep in the soul, reverberating there for hours after. And the lyrics in the title track, Cain's Blood, are ingenious. This song feeds the listener with pulsing energy and mesmerizes note by note.
Lonnie Knight performs at many venues in Minnesota. Such as Woody's in Rockford, The Poodle Club in Minneapolis, Bailey Ray's in Santiago, In Kahoots in Hamel, Smokin' Hill in Isles, and many more.
