To discover a new artist is an exhilarating experience, however, when dealing with
a legend it can become a humbling experience. Jody Williams helped shape the sound of Chicago blues during the 50's. He was an influence on people such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, and rockers Carlos Santana and Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green. Before his thirty year disappearance from the music industry, he fronted his own band, plus he worked sessions with Billy Boy Arnold (I Wish You Would), Bo Diddley (Who Do You Love), and Howlin' Wolf's (Forty Four). After thoroughly searching my vinyl for Jody Williams he popped-up in the Chess credits, and on some Cobra sessions. Unfortunately, the vinyl has suffered much abuse. In regards to this new Evidence records debut; I was left speechless. He's got the voice and the guitar--it's like he never really left the music scene! And talk about guest lists: Billy Boy Arnold (it must be nice to be re-united with Arnold), Ronnie Baker Brooks, Sean Costello (now here is a young man with a future), Tinsley Ellis, and Rusty Zinn. I'm partial to a good baritone sax and Willie Henderson in the horn section won't let you down. Jody Williams penned all thirteen songs on this outing--and there are no sleepers. Highly recommended.
