blues picture Another great tribute album hits the racks! This one is for Michael Bloomfield, and it's about time. Bloomfield was a major influence on the Ford bothers, and a whole generation of guitar players. I can vividly remember kids buying the all-white Fender teles, because Bloomfield played one. Those guitars cost about $75.00, and are now, beyond collectible. For his time, Bloomfield was one of the top guns, and during the 60s, he was a household name. I truly believe, that he commands more respect and recognition, and perhaps, this record will pave the way to a new generation of listeners. This new disc kick-starts with an interview segment, followed by track #2: "Killing My Love;" a high-strung emotional gem with a remarkable vocal range; complete with brass! Check out Paul Simon's classic "59th Street Bridge Song"-a very cool and bluesy rendition. Love the driving bass and lead on track #4: "Stop," a great instrumental. Track #5 opens with a damn fine brass section-this is a Chicago "Booty Shake" to the max! Track #6 is a short interview with Bloomfield. The immortal "I Got A Mind To Give Up Living" rolls in at track #7. The interview continues on track #8, followed by "Groovin' Is Easy"-too sweet for words. Give "Peter's Trip" a listen-that's a harpsichord, and another gem instrumental. A very soulful (beautiful vocals) Bloomfield cover: "The One's I Loved Are Gone" fills in track #11. A very funky track #12 lifts your spirits. Great keys and fret work on "Jimi The Fox." Ray Charles' "Mary Ann" follows with a nice bounce. The interview continues with a fine mix of blues-nice version of Walter's "Blues With A Feeling." And as far as tributes go, this one is top bill.
