Doreen Robideaux is a new name to me, and I have to profess that I know nothing about the band except for this new release. The album has 9 songs, which were all written by Doreen Robideaux.
"Testify To The Blues" starts the ball rolling, it's a snappy attacking piece of music
with a very good sax break provided by Jeffrey Kopmanis. Jeff also features very heavily on "I Want That Boogie Man," but special mention has to go to Tim Merman on bass who manages to get a lovely booming bass sound on this driving song. The Cd also has it's mellow side, "Come The Night Owl" has a good atmospheric start as it builds into a powerful vocal display from Doreen over a mellow sax and guitar, that is very edgy to start, as Dennis Harrigan powers out some great playing. "Why Did You Go?" is a play on "Riot in Cell Block No9" and boy oh boy doesn't Doreen make the most of telling us the tale of why people who love each other but can't live together because of things they get up to, Doreen carries it off in splendid fashion. "Salvation In The Blues"
has a dreamy like quality to the song in which Doreen is at her soulful best, on this slow waltz. "I Just Wanna Be With You" is another slow burner which again shows Doreen at her soulful best. The final song "Movin' On" is a story of how Doreen is leaving her man to find something new and I suppose it's a good way to end this release from an interesting new band. I liked the album, it has some good songs.
