Profile
Gordon Thorne
The major influences on Gordon Thorne's guitar style have been the legends of country blues. For the past twenty years, such legendary bluesmen as Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy have all left their mark on Thorne's guitar style. Combining these ragtime and piedmont influences with his own interpretations, Throne delivers forceful, precise guitar work and soulful vocals. Throne has been a regular performer in the northern Minnesota and Wisconsin areas for the past decade. As much as his musical interests have influenced his playing, his lifestyle has shaped how he views his music. He currently lives in northern Minnesota where he devides his time between family, work and his music. Living in a rural part of the state he works as a carpenter, practicing a trade that allows him time away from the hustle of modern life. Recently Throne has teamed up with Bob Bingham exchanging secrets they have learned over the years and sharing a common interest in the legends of the country blues guitar. Their new album featuring acoustic duets is called "Out Of The Desert & Into The Blues." Gordon Thorne also plays in the popular North Shore R&B combo The Abandoned Neighbors and sits in from time to time with the premier northeast zydeco band The Splinters. So spend some time riding the rails with Gordon Thorne, one of the most talented acoustic blues musicians in the Northland.
