Susan Tedeschi
Susan Tedeschi (pronounced Tuh-DES-kee) was born and raised in a typical middle class environment in Massachusetts in 1970. She has been honing her considerable vocal talents since the age of six when she made her singing debut in a local stage production. Growing up she continued to perform in theater, sang in gospel choirs and joined her first band at age 13 singing all types of popular music. She said she has always been in front of people. In 1991 she graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston and soon began her "real" musical education. She recalls listening to some of her father's delta blues records as a child but it wasn't until she started attending the Sunday night blues jams in the early 90's in Somerville, Massachusetts that she really became interested in singing the blues. It was also around this time that she first picked up the guitar. She immersed herself in the Boston blues scene, went on to perform and record with Toni Lynn Washington and finally landed a national recording contract with Tone-Cool Records releasing her album "Just Won't Burn" in 1998. Tedeschi has a very engaging stage demeanor where she freely mixes classic R&B, blues and pop along with her own gospel and blues-flavored original songs into her performance. She also has one of the most refreshingly original voices of the young female blues singers performing today. Her versatile voice has the power and passion of a classic blues belter that belies her young age. Tedeschi will also be playing at the Bayfront Blues Saloon Sunday, August 16th as part of the free ladies night.
